Hooray for another Paint Party Friday!
May continues to be a very busy month, but I feel the need to get my paint on (even if it's only for a minute here or a minute there).
When I'm short on time, one way I get my creative fix is to splash some paint on paper, play with pattern, and explore different color combinations. I enjoy the process and don't worry about the outcome, but in the end I am left with some pretty cool collage papers for future projects...
What are some ways you work painting into a busy schedule?
Hello! Mine is up early as I have a busy morning tomorrow. :)
ReplyDeleteLove your different boxes of colour/combination. I kind of did that this afternoon. I've been gradually moving myself from watercolour pencils/waterbrush to actual watercolour paints!
Happy (early) PPF! :)
These are fantastic! Greaaaat use of color, layering and pattern. Very pleasing.
ReplyDeleteAt one point I used to do a small watercolor everyday. Watercolor used to be my favorite medium before I started art school and I loved learning about all of the different reactions it had, some more controllable than others.
Happy (almost) PPF!
Okay, I'll try again. I see my name in the comment box with google in parenthesis which is a good sign. Your pages are great. It is a good idea to have journal pages prepped as you've done. The color are great and they would be fun to work with. Happy PPF! Okay I'll try to submit and see if it takes.
ReplyDeleteYay, I'm able to comment again. Tee Hee
ReplyDeleteOh kristen these patterns are terrific! i love all the textures!
ReplyDeleteoooh, i love the red orange and yellow patterns...so pretty! Happy PPF
ReplyDeleteYou just splashed that paint on that paper...wow!!!me thinks I think too much about everything...really pretty...and I look forward to seeing the paper turn up in other projects ♥
ReplyDeleteoh your splashwork is amazing! I could never not worry about the outcome.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! They look like scrapbook pages ready to fill with photos!
ReplyDeleteVery very pretty and some very elaborate backgrounds. Great combinations!
ReplyDeleteHi - beautiful paintings!
ReplyDeleteI ... love working at night, I mean - past midnight, seems like that's when I'm always the brightest, but I cannot do it. My hubby can't fall asleep without me, soooo... I can only work when I have the time.
Cool patterns Kristin! They would make some nice wall paper or gift wrap. Happy PPF! :-)
ReplyDeleteGood idea. I really like what you have created spontaneously!
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful...a quicker way to keep creating without the commitment of a full scale painting....and I love the idea of using them to collage with!
ReplyDeleteAs for fitting in art in a busy schedule...unfortunately just means cutting back on sleep. I do some of my best stuff when everyone else is sleeping!
wow, look at all those wonderful patterns, colors and textures. ready set ..... paint!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a good idea! :) I usually get frustrated at myself and just give in. I might try this next time. :) Gorgeous papers btw. :)
ReplyDeleteOK, that's smart thinking, love the results & then that can inspire some other idea further down the track, once your on that wheel it's easier to keep up a little momentum! Well Done :)
ReplyDeletethese are great. i especially love the yellow flowers with pink background and the blue flowers. do you draw them by hand or do you have a stencil as they look so uniform and fantastic!
ReplyDeleteMy way to start the work is laid for a walk with my dog .. and then to the task I like your broken violet
ReplyDeletewell I don't deal with it too well. Evident by my lack of posting this past week. I too wonder how you do them...they do look so perfectly uniform - lesson please.
ReplyDeletecheers, dana
What a great idea for dealing with being too busy to really concentrate on your painting. These are great, especially the violets!
ReplyDeleteOh, I LOVE your collage papers! What an awesome collection of patterns and color. A great idea when you don't have the time for a longer painting session. These are gorgeous!
ReplyDeletelove all your backgrounds! a great idea! thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I think I'll have to try this- it looks very relaxing, almost like meditating and then, like you said, you have good materials for collage!
ReplyDeleteSometimes I make backgrounds with left over paint to be added to later. I love yours. Each one is beautiful in color and pattern! Happy PPF! Theresa
ReplyDeleteOooh! I love these. I did a similar sort of thing this week. Just played with the paint. I was thinking, though, that I should do some on paper so I can use the colors for collage later, too.
ReplyDeleteoooo this is brilliant! love the idea.
ReplyDeleteto paint when I'm busy. Either I work on a larger project and just do a fine layer and then leave the next layer for another time...
or a small scale painting. like a couple of inches by a couple of inches.
I can finally comment!!
ReplyDeleteYour topiary tree for CT is gorgeous!!
I love the backgrounds you've made!! I always use left over paint on ATC blanks, or canvases. It is a jump start for when you feel like being creative!!
xxDaniella
Loving your background papers. I also love making these its such a great way of slapping the paint on (slapping is an artistic term...lol)
ReplyDeleteHappy PPF, Annette x
You have some GREAT colors and textures on some of your papers above. LOVE your creativity! HAPPY PPF!
ReplyDeleteThese are all such cool papers. I love all the colors and textures. What I do when I don't have any inspiration is get those canvas boards and I just make all kinds of mess. And they are the backgrounds for my painting. Happy PPF!!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea...it's always a good idea to have pretty collage papers like these. Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteThis is super clever--I'm going to try this during the week. :) Happy Paint Party!
ReplyDeleteYummy yummy textures! Love all of these!
ReplyDeleteSmiles
Wow - Eva suggested I move to Chrome which I did so now I'll try leaving comments again. Love your textures and the patterns - really fun for collaging. happy PPF
ReplyDeleteI really like your playful creations, so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI always manage to make time (I have to) and I love the splashes of paints you have manages in quick time ;0) Dxx
ReplyDeleteLove these!!!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh you lost four teeth in a rollerblading accident and I'm whining about a chipped tooth,,, I feel ashamed. That must have been very painful ,, thankyou for visiting me today,, I love the vibrant colors and unique designs in your work,,
ReplyDeleteThese are some yummy colors and patterns, some of them I just want to grab and put in my art journal.
ReplyDeleteWhoa....girl!!! These patterns are marvelous...they make my fingers itch!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the collage papers, they will make beautiful backgrounds. I have a hard time working in art as I need to really focus on what I am doing. I have just now begun to have "extra" papers by me to put down left over paint, etc. on. It is kind of freeing.
ReplyDeleteLovely designs! Love your work and the header for your blog is so nice!
ReplyDeleteMagnificent colors making a nice composition, very interesting designs. Greetings.
ReplyDeleteI agree, you get some great pages out of your time constraints!! Happy PFF!
ReplyDeleteWonderful collection!
ReplyDeleteI run around like a headless chciken and pout at the end of the week. *rolleyes at my style*
Great idea K! I try to work on arting everyday, whether it be painting, drawing or reading.
ReplyDeleteNow, this is a good practice instead of messing up on the actual painting like I did! Love #11 blue forget me nots on transparent paper.....I can see how these would be great elements for future projects....ie. using in mixed media and encaustic wax...bees wax combo. If the flies aren't out, the porch sounds like the purrrfect spot to create....inspiring!
ReplyDeleteAnnabelle
These are so cool! I don't paint nearly enough and I love your idea of just playing!
ReplyDeleteKristen, as I have gotten older I kept saying things will settle down and be normal again soon....then I realized this busy schedule IS normal for me. So I give myself short term challenges....a painting a day except Sundays for 6 wks or something creative every day for one month. Then I blog my challenge. Going public is a great motivator. It works for me!
ReplyDeleteHi Kristen, all these comments are encouraging me to be part of this party, I believe I can start next Friday. I like all those pattern papers. That is what I usually do before starting a project because I love to use my painted papers for my collage papers. When I am busy I just sketch, and sketch....and now I try to paint all my sketches before deciding to paint them. I am beginning to use watercolors...after Alisa Burke's workshop.
