Look What I Found!

red.   5.5"x8.5"   mixed media on a re-purposed book cover

Lately I have been noticing a lot of paintings being created from abstract backgrounds.  When I saw NatashaMay's video for the Butterfly Effect, it was the final push I needed to play with some paint, have some fun, and see where my background led me...

Look What I Found!

I started out with the cover from a recycled hardbound book, collaged some pages for texture, then splashed some red (and gold) paint on it.

It was so much fun... I can't believe I didn't paint this way sooner!  (Especially since I seem to "see things" everywhere  - like here, or here, or even here!)

I have a feeling I will be doing a lot more of this type of painting in the future!

  6. I also "see" things everywhere since my brother and SIL bought me a cool book for Christmas about simple thing can make you laugh. It's a book about an exhibition about simple things like brushes or spoons being turned into funny people or animals by adding paint etc. Now I "see" such things every where. *lol* Happy PPF!

  8. I am SO pleased to see that it isn't just me who sees things and creatures everywhere. Last night there was a baby goat on one of my bathroom floor tiles.

I have been making collages on repurposed canvases and the only way I can "draw" is to let the creatures emerge from the layers of paper...but they are there!

  15. You have the best imagination of anyone I've ever met! I love how you saw a snail on the motorway and an elephant in your shower. I do sometimes see things like that but I must remember in future to photograph them and turn them into art - fabulous!

  19. Very interesting process. I think some of the intermediary stages in your background look really beautiful on their own. This technique could give you a lot of options to play around with. Fun!

  20. This technique is used in art schools so that students lose fear of to the canvas or blank paper , and is very fun, is called "objet trouvé". Saludos

  22. Loved the backgrounds from start to finish! :) My question would be: how do you let go of each stage? I would have stopped so many layers before because it´s so pretty I wouldn´t want to cover that.

  43. Oh my...you do have the gift of "seeing things" and I love how this turned out. Isn't it fun and freeing to paint in this way? Mystele from Little Glimpses Studio has some wonderful videos on YouTube & Ning showing how she paints backgrounds, then "pulls" her figures from the what she sees. SO fun!
