red. 5.5"x8.5" mixed media on a re-purposed book cover
Lately I have been noticing a lot of paintings being created from abstract backgrounds. When I saw NatashaMay's video for the Butterfly Effect, it was the final push I needed to play with some paint, have some fun, and see where my background led me...
Look What I Found!
I started out with the cover from a recycled hardbound book, collaged some pages for texture, then splashed some red (and gold) paint on it.
It was so much fun... I can't believe I didn't paint this way sooner! (Especially since I seem to "see things" everywhere - like here, or here, or even here!)
I have a feeling I will be doing a lot more of this type of painting in the future!
Very cool Kristin. I will have to look into what the Butterfly effect is. Sounds intriguing. Happy PPF! :-)
ReplyDeleteHow fun to see how this piece ended up! Thanks for sharing that link too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a highly productive creative you are! Amazing!
ReplyDeleteI just love the way this turned out. I enjoyed seeing the process.. Very cool..

Hello Kristin, very interesting, such fun to play with the different stages. The outcome is great, an original piece, love it!
ReplyDeleteI also "see" things everywhere since my brother and SIL bought me a cool book for Christmas about simple thing can make you laugh. It's a book about an exhibition about simple things like brushes or spoons being turned into funny people or animals by adding paint etc. Now I "see" such things every where. *lol* Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the process, who would have thought it would have ended up this much fun. Loving it. Happy PPF and have a great weekend, Annette x
ReplyDeleteI am SO pleased to see that it isn't just me who sees things and creatures everywhere. Last night there was a baby goat on one of my bathroom floor tiles.
ReplyDeleteI have been making collages on repurposed canvases and the only way I can "draw" is to let the creatures emerge from the layers of paper...but they are there!
That is so clever. I just watched Natasha's video. I love what you saw in your background...really fun way to paint.
ReplyDeleteThank you for showing the stages of development- it is amazing all the changes a painting goes through! Knowing what is under it & the inspiration, makes the final layer even more fun!
ReplyDeleteIt really does look like a fun way to paint. Love what you ended up with.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful. I really love seeing the full progression of this beautiful painting! Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteSo wonderful, Kristin!
ReplyDeleteI love seeing the process step-by-step!
The final result is great, too!
♥♥♥
Happy PPF!!

ReplyDeleteYou have the best imagination of anyone I've ever met! I love how you saw a snail on the motorway and an elephant in your shower. I do sometimes see things like that but I must remember in future to photograph them and turn them into art - fabulous!

Funny! I especially like the next to last panel, the last background. In fact all of the backgrounds are just fabulous. Looks like fun.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting process. I think some of the intermediary stages in your background look really beautiful on their own. This technique could give you a lot of options to play around with. Fun!
ReplyDeleteThis technique is used in art schools so that students lose fear of to the canvas or blank paper , and is very fun, is called "objet trouvé". Saludos
ReplyDeleteWow...never would have expected how this piece would turn out from any one picture. It looks like you had such a great time with the whole process. I am going to have to try this. Love where it led you.
ReplyDeleteLoved the backgrounds from start to finish! :) My question would be: how do you let go of each stage? I would have stopped so many layers before because it´s so pretty I wouldn´t want to cover that.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! I liked all the backgrounds along the way to your delightful painting. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the process, awesome!
ReplyDeleteFabulous...I'm off to watch her video... :)

I love the end result. That is a really good idea. I can't wait to try it sometime. Happy painting!
ReplyDeleteOh my...you do have the gift of "seeing things" and I love how this turned out. Isn't it fun and freeing to paint in this way? Mystele from Little Glimpses Studio has some wonderful videos on YouTube & Ning showing how she paints backgrounds, then "pulls" her figures from the what she sees. SO fun!
ReplyDeleteThis is FABULOUS!!! I love the final results! THose eyes and the little wings are just adorable. GREAT job!! Thanks for sharing! xoxo
ReplyDeletevery cool and thanks for the blow by blow shots... I like that it still looks like your work even though you used a different technique... so glad I finally got here to have a look...xx
