"Cat-erina" 8.5"x12"
paint over collage (on a re-purposed book cover)
Last week, I announced the start of Tutorial Try-outs. To kick things off, I decided to try-out Tam's paint over collage tutorial.
I started out with the collage, just like Tam... But, as I started to paint, this piece ended up taking on a life of its own! I think this technique will be a great way to work on fun and unique compositions, and I'm looking forward to trying it again... But, I think it will take a few more attempts before I really get comfortable with the technique and all of its possibilities.
I'm so excited that Jez decided to play along!
Have you given it a try?
If so, I'd love to see! (Please link your post below.)
And, be sure to read all the way to the end of the post to see what tutorial I'm trying next!
I've decided to try 2 different (but similar) tutorials next:

This is a tour-de-force Kristin, such a mystical image, the combination of the 'baby fox cubs', as I read them, and the cat, keeps me wondering what the girl with the gorgeous lush hair is thinking about.
ReplyDeleteSo, TWO tutorials next week. I'd better get started now!
Looking forward to seeing other people's work.
Haven't got the materials for the foil resist, so I'll see what I can invent to create something along the lines of the tutorial. Like the idea of the vaseline one, at least we have a jar of vaseline!
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to see what you come up with, Jez - it's so much fun to have you creating along with me!

p.s. I just happen to have the "foil" from my years as a mural artist/decorative painter... But, I am a big believer in just using what you've got :)
Very cool concept. I can see how it could help to push a composition and see arrangements in a new light, plus, it looks like fun.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jenn - it was fun... And, definitely something I'm going to try again :)

I tried one but didn't like it at all. But I am till inspired by this technique and may do one again later on. Your work is so lovely, and I am impressed by the folks who submitted theirs!
ReplyDeleteThank you for you kind words Mary Ann :)
DeletePlease be kind to yourself too... I think we're definitely our own worst critics (I know the feeling all too well).
I'm glad to hear that you're thinking of giving it another go! (If you feel like sharing, I'd love to see!)
