Hello, Spring?!?

"Spring Turtle"   2.5x3.5 ACEO
(available here)

My new motto:
If you can't actually have Spring (the cold and snow just keep hanging on!), you have to create a little "spring" for yourself!

This week's theme over at Inspiration Avenue is "Hello Spring...".  I had to dig deep for this one because I am finding it hard to remember what Spring is like. Ha!  (Can you tell I've had enough of winter weather?!?)

And since a Sunday just wouldn't be a Sunday without some Sunday Sketches, I offer you a (somewhat scary) glimpse into my head:

These pages are a pretty good indication of the crazy chaotic thought processes going on inside my noggin these days!  As I look at these pages, I think they would probably be a good submission for this month's Sketchbook Challenge theme: "Spilling Over".  My jumbled thoughts are definitely spilling over (all over my sketchbook pages)!

Sometimes, when I'm looking for ideas and searching for inspiration I flip through my old sketchbook pages.  This week while flipping I came across this page:

This is a page I created at this exact time last year.  (Before I started blogging.)

I thought this page was particularly interesting because I'm feeling that creative restlessness again.  It makes me wonder if there is something about Spring (or waiting for Spring) that causes these feelings...  Wanting to try something new... The need for experimentation...

I'm curious, are you "creatively restless" too?

Please be sure to visit all of my friends over at Sophia's blog to see how they're creatively handling the change in  seasons.

  1. Yay! I'm so glad you made for IA's challenge! I love your turtles and this one is especially fun! Also that creatively restless journal page is awesome- I love the cat's face! And yes, I too have been creatively restless- this time of year, my favorite place to be is the garden, so it's hard to stay disiplined and focus on work......

  3. I am really loving all of your Turtles. Did you know it is good luck to have a turtle (not real as they move) placed somewhere in your home and it has to be facing North? Spring Fever is very much alive and well in my house.

  8. I'm starting to become quite fond of turtles lately. I think your work is the reason. Your little shelled friends are adorable. I'm also feeling the effects of Spring Fever and am very restless to be creating something.

  10. I am familiar with that restlessness - and then usually create nothing. Bah. Love the turtle and am glad it's smiling and not the mad looking one from the sketchbook. The page though? Man, that one gave me a good chuckle!

  13. Love all of the turtles... especially the first. The restlessness is contagious I think. Have been rather unnerved for a while myself and having difficulty getting it to translate.

  14. Great post, Kristin. I love the collage from last year AND your turtles. I share with you the thought process about spring restlessness - for me, this time of year is about as busy as the holidays but I can see the summer calm on the horizon. I pressure myself to speed up my creative process with to keep up, catch up, not be left behind, or because I think I am on some hidden agenda. I forget the importance of just being creative within the time I have alloted, and the importance of balance.

  16. Love the turtles! We always see a couple strolling around our garden each year. I look forward to finding them under a bush or near the house. A sure sign that warm weather is here to stay!

  23. I think it is the re-emerging of the sun that brings about this "restlessness." It is funny, last weekend we had a unusually warm day. I decided to take a walk at a local park to photograph the emerging spring. The trick was on me as all, I found were bare trees. No green in sight. Oh well. I am loving the turtles and your sketchbook. Loving the diapered kitty!
