"Springtime" is the theme for Creative Tuesday at Mr.Toast's blog. For me, springtime is all about rejuvenation, having fun, and play! Since I just bought some very cool water soluble oil pastels, I thought this was the perfect opportunity for some studio playtime. (I also added some prismacolor pencils, and the text was added in picnik.)
Speaking of play...
This week's Illustration Friday theme is "toy". Even though I have never been much of a girly-girl, I remember enjoying playing with paper dolls at my Grandma Huber's house. So, this week I've decided to revisit that part of my childhood and do some paper doll drawings (and paintings).
Please be sure to stop back later in the week because I'm planning on combining these two themes for Paint Party Friday.
oooh funky flowers, love them!...and the medium too...lovely effect. Gorgeous wee doll too..wish I had a choice of three heads to choose from sometimes ;) XX
ReplyDeleteJust love the flowers and especially the colours, so joyful. Also love the doll, such a good idea for that challenge.

*snort* I love the multiple head doll! That's just brilliant!
ReplyDeleteAlso, you make me jealous in the nicest possible way with your lovely color blending.
OOoh, I loved paper dolls too! They were so much fun. I like your sweet flowers. Oil pastels have never been favorite but if could do as well as you I could reconsider! :-)
ReplyDeleteLove the flowers!
ReplyDeleteAnd the paper doll made me smile! Hey, don't we all wish we could just change heads when we're having a bad hair day? lol....
What a delightful Springtime picture, so cheery! I'm really digging your paper doll girl with the inter-changeable heads!
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful picture of spring flowers, and I love the way you wrote "Springtime." It just adds so much.

ReplyDeleteWonderful work Kristin!
ReplyDeleteFabulous oil pastel flowers! I totally agree with you about the rejuvinating powers of spring. It's a glorious time of year.
ReplyDeleteLove the colors for the spring theme. :) I remember playing with paper dolls, too. :)
ReplyDeleteVery cool indeed. I love the funky shapes and colors. Water soluble oil pastels sound cool, creamy and very messy...but fun! See - you do have a sense of adventure about you and new medium so no need to be a scaredy cat with that new Wacom - the same techniques apply. The key is finding the digital brushes you feel translate well with your style and just have fun.
ReplyDeleteI love the faces on each doll and can't wait to see them all 'dolled' up.
Hi Kristin!!
ReplyDeleteThanks a million for visiting my blog yesterday!! I've heard of your other project blogs, PPF and Monday art day! I even have them bookmarked on my computer! So I was really happily surprised when I saw your awesome comment! I liked the paper pieced sun too. As you read, it was one of the few parts I did like!!
I love your spring piece!! Pastels are fun!!
Thanks agan!
