Sunday Sketches... One Tree Leads to Another

It is (finally!) the perfect weather to grab some prismacolor pencils and head to the porch (my favorite place to create)!

The sketchbook page I am sharing this week was inspired by this post over at Janice's blog and this post over at Missy's blog.  After reading their posts I started thinking about Willy Wonka's candy trees, and how "money doesn't grow on trees", and before I knew it I had filled a page with things I thought might be fun to grow on trees.  (If you look in the top photo you can see my page full of words/ideas.)  I love this part of the creative process... During my brainstorming sessions, no idea is too ridiculous to be written down (falafel trees...seriously?!?)

I ended up sketching a few ideas while enjoying the day in a Spring that has finally sprung...

Please be sure to stop by Sophia's blog to see what ideas are springing up in my friends' sketchbooks!

  7. I love the picture of your sketchbook outside! Fantastic, love this! I really like the one with the rolling pin trunk. This looks like a page from sorta cute children's book, you could call it, What IF! You also have wonderful penmanship. And thank you for saying I helped inspire your creation, you made my day!

  15. awww I LOVE the brainstroming pages you share...a little insight into that wonderful mind of yours :)xx Always in awe of how finished and fantastic your sketches are too!
Now if I could have a dream come true..you would cross cup cakes with £100 pound notes and that would be the tree for me...so long as it didn't rely on my watering skills to survive :)xxx

  17. These are fantastic. I really love the pizza trees...and falafel trees are TOTALLY do-able...actually, I imagine they'd be more like a bush, with tzaziki on lettuce leaves gently enfolding them.....hmmm, can you tell I'm hungry? :)

    Great work as always

  19. Kristen...I am so pleased that Ferndale's gumdrop trees led you to create such a fun collection of trees. My favorite is the pizza forest, though I love them all. How clever you are!

  21. What fun ideas for a sketch book and so visually appealing! Love the colors and the cute little images.

I do visual puns with my high school students in their sketchbooks. I give a word or phrase and they have to draw it but can not draw its literal meaning. We get some cute images. Some weird ones, too.
    Thanks, for posting.
