100/100: Happy Moose Year! (I know, I know, it's a stretch...)

For my final image in the series, I thought it would be fun

to come full circle by re-interpreting day one’s character

in the looser style I’ve been playing with lately.

Having a moose in his underwear also seemed like an appropriate image

to finish off 2020 since one of the surprising (and recurring) themes of the year

has been a general lack of pants... (It’s definitely been a year like no other.)

In my last post I mentioned that I took part in the Illustrator Challenge at the New England SCBWI Conference.  The theme of the challenge was Fairy Tale Mash-up, so I created "Swinederella": a combination of Cinderella, The Three Little Pigs, and a dash of Little Red Riding Hood.  It was created using pencil, watercolor, and Photoshop.

Since I love seeing how other artists create their art, I thought it would be fun to share images of my process from start to finish...

I'm still figuring things out in Photoshop, but I have a feeling that I'm really going to enjoy this way of working!

One Thing Leads To Another...

Natasha left a comment on this week's tutorial post:

Well, I have to say that I couldn't agree more!

Since creating my first abstracted flowers, I've continued to play...

And, since one idea always seems to lead to another...
I decided to use this opportunity to face a big fear of mine:  Digital Art.

Since I am usually a tactile-hands-on-paint-all-over-myself kind of gal, I have always been apprehensive (though, completely intrigued) about digital art.  I see so many artists who create beautiful (and very painterly) digital pieces, but I have remained intimidated by the process... 

Until now.

I used Carla's low-pressure, no-expectations tutorial as inspiration for my very first digital doodle!

And, once I created the flowers, I couldn't help but turn them into crazy hair.
(Crazy-haired ladies seem to have become a bit of an obsession of mine... But, that's a story for a different post!)

The Post In Which I Announce My Advancement Into The Modern Age

one of my underpaintings turned digital

Well, it's official... I've finally joined the new millenium!

Last month, for my birthday, Bob bought me an i-phone.  And, I love it!

You may be saying, "Well, of course you do!".  But, for those of you who know me best, you may be chuckling and saying, "It's about time!".  

The truth is, I have been... er, umm... "resistant" to change (particularly of the technological variety) in the past.  I am someone who spent countless hours developing my own film then watching my pictures come to life in a good old fashioned dark room.  I have always loved the smell of paper and the feel of a well worn book in my hands.  And, to say that my previous phone was a "dinosaur"... Well, let's just say that's being kind.  So, when Bob suggested that I might like an i-phone, my initial reaction was to laugh in his sweet, well-meaning face.

Another truth:  Bob knows me better than I know myself.

He surprised me with an i-phone for my birthday and I love it...  

I loooooove it!

The image at the top of this post was created on my i-phone using one of my underpaintings (you can see the original here), and the photoffiti app.  Yes, I am now a person who uses words like "app" with surprising fluency... Who knew?
