"Ewe-nique" 8x10 mixed media on canvas
Well, some days things work, and some days... not so much.
For today's painting I adhered an old sheet of newspaper to an 8x10 canvas using matte medium, then added a thin layer of gesso. (I kept the gesso slightly thicker along the edge so I could scratch the border squares in.) Then I drew in the sheep (ewe) and started playing with paint, prismacolors, graphite, and a little more gesso. I finished it off with a coat of beeswax.
Unfortunately, the finished product contains some pretty distracting unfixable bubbles. As a result I will not be selling this painting in my etsy shop. (Which will be opening as soon as I iron out the scanning/photographing/listing kinks.) But never fear, I will be creating another painting to replace this one in my 30 in 30 for 30 collection!
In more Art Every Day news, I just received the most wonderful email from my sister-in-law Debbie... It turns out that my very imaginative 11 year old niece, Lauren, has been inspired to create a piece of artwork every day for the month of November too. Wow... so cool. Lauren is a very talented artist and I am so excited to see what she's been up to!
(Don't forget to stop by the Creative Every Day blog to see what other artists created for Day 3.)
Awwww...I really love your sheep, Kristin. Keep it up...you're off to a great start. :) Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI love the sheep wool. The swirls are great. That is so neat about your niece.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the fantastic work!
I don't think it's a total loss. Can you pop the bubbles and then squish it flat and then add a glaze to make it look aged? Almost like leather. I like it and the bubbles add character. :)
ReplyDeletecool about your niece!
that is wonderful
ReplyDeleteI love it, the sheep are just too cute. I love that only one has color. The bubble really are not that bad, almost look like they were intentional.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine how a few bubbles could take away from all this cuteness!!
ReplyDeleteFantastic...and I kind of like the bubbles...they add character...I love the style in which you created this..!
