Paint Party Friday... It's Hip to be Square

It's time for another Paint Party Friday!  Yay!  I am really loving this... It's so much fun!

Last week, I received lots of questions about the textures in my paintings.  In case you missed it, I answered the texture question (and some other questions) here.

This week I painted squares...

Lots and LOTS of squares!
(400 squares... But who's counting?!? ha!)

Sometimes I find the beginning stages of a painting can be a little tedious.  Although, if all goes well it is (usually) worth it in the end.  Do you ever find that to be true?

On a much more exciting note, I received a wonderful package in the mail this week...

Is it candy?!?

No.  It's the beautiful birds I bought from the very talented Makiko (Maki) Hastings to support Japan!  Weren't they wrapped so sweetly?  I guess you could call them "eye candy"!

If you haven't checked out Maki's 1000 Birds Project yet, be sure to pay her a visit...  They are absolutely adorable!   (I just love the details - the little bird feet on the bottoms are fantastic.)

I can't wait to give them as gifts, but I have to admit that since they're so cute I had to keep a couple for myself!

If you've been painting this week, please be sure to share what you've been up to over at the PPF blog.  (Even if you haven't been painting try to stop by and see what everyone else has created!)

  1. I love the idea of painting square like you did. How awesome. Great job, the colors are terrific. I like a lot of color. You know I have been working on little birds too, not like these but similar. I had a lot of clay and didn't know what to do with it, so I thought I would try my hand at making little birds. Just got started on it and it looks like it's going to be fun. Just using the clay that doesn't have to go in the oven. Anyway, great job! Look forward to PPF later this eve. Take care.

  3. I really like the look of your blog today. With the squares, the cutely wrapped birds, then the birds, etc. you have so much color and it's beautiful. I found myself staring at the squares trying to find a pattern in the way the colors are laid down. Loved it all.

  7. Hi Kristin, Love the squares and from your comments I gather this is just the beginning, it will be fun to see what you do with it or if you decide to just leave it. The birds are adorable and it is such a great cause. I feel so much sadness for the people that are living through this disaster. See you at the party.

  10. I love your squares.... must be like a meditation to paint them.
Tedious for me is when I have an idea and do not know how to express myself, but that might actually be more like challenging.

  24. Your squares are wonderful- I love watching these as they progress. Do you mask them off as you go, or just paint each one individually? I'm sure you'll post the end result!
    Happy PPF!

  25. Thank you for all of your wonderful words of encouragement and for your kindness!

@ Rhonda (Roban Studio): Yes I did get slightly hypnotized! ha! - just like Tammie said, it was like meditation :)

@ Stephanie: I paint them each individually (no masking) I like the irregular quality of it. I will definitely show you all what this turns into :)

  38. Kristin, I love your squares! They remind me of stained glass. Your vibrant colors go together perfectly. And, I too find the beginning stages of a painting tedious...I just want it to instantaneously look like what I see in my mind without all the process.
    Have a great week:)
