The 100 Day Project: Days 11 - 20

In case you missed my last post, I started the 100 day project on April 7th.
Here are the latest bunch of party animals...
11/100: Sure, Dolores may not have technically *needed* a mask, but she was always a bit of an overachiever... and that definitely included masquerade ball accessorizing.

12/100: Randy wondered if coming to the party might have been a mistake...

13/100: Phineas is ready to party, but transportation is turning out to be trickier than anticipated.

14/100: This party animal crashed last night's zoom meeting...
(At least he brought toilet paper!)

15/100: A sketchy start inspired by Bulldogs Are Beautiful Day.

16/100: When Steve goes to a party, there's usually a lot of swatting and shooing. But an Earth Day Party?!? He's a VIP VIB!

17/100: Despite his glum appearance, Glenn was truly having the time of his life.

18, 19, and 20/100: A few feathered friends...

The 100 Day Project: Days 1 - 10

I've joined #The100DayChallenge! If you're on Instagram and would like daily updates, you can follow my progress @kristindudish. I also thought it would be fun to share the project in groups of 10 here on the blog. The theme I've chosen is #100DaysofPartyAnimals.

1/100: Well, there is certainly no moosetaking that Clark is the life of the party!

2/100: Coco's pre-party preparations may have led to some overly enthusiastic color choices... The (possibly) good news? Her normal skunky aroma (off putting to some) has been overshadowed by the distinct smell of hair dye.

3/100: Laverne never shows up to a party empty handed, and her blue ribbon square pie is always a crowd pleaser.

4/100: Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water... This is the start of my next party animal. (Pool party, anyone?)

5/100: Pete was so excited to have actually been invited to a pool party, he may have gone a bit overboard in his preparations.

6/100: As an expert in a different holiday, Jerry was excited to be invited to a Halloween party. Unfortunately, his costume making skills were not nearly as advanced as his egg decorating talents.

7/100: A scribbly sketchy start of an idea.

8/100: Binkwee loves book birthday parties, and he is extra excited about ANTI/HERO written by the fabulous Kate Karyus Quinn and Demitria Lunetta with amazing art by Maca Gil! Happy Pub Day!

9/100: "Masquerade", acrylic on fabric (attached to an old cabinet door), 2011. One of the things I've been doing during quarantine is cleaning (and trying to organize) my studio. While going through a closet, I discovered this "party animal" that I painted in 2011... I'm thinking I may need to create an updated version for The 100 Day Challenge.

10/100: Playing with an idea inspired by yesterday's post...

Please be sure to let me know if you're doing the challenge too - I'd love to see what you've been creating for it!

2019 in a (Crab)shell...

I've been seeing a lot of year end posts, and even though I've been a little lax with the blog (okay, a lot lax), I thought it would be fun to write one too. But... since trying to squeeze a year's worth of happenings into a single post seems a bit overwhelming, I think I'll end the year with an update that circles back to where it began:

At the beginning of 2019, I had just created Crab...

I continued to play with, and develop, his character...

And, as I wrote and revised his story, his personality started to come through...

I ended up setting his story aside for a little while to work on other projects, but then in July I decided to revisit his story and apply for the #PBChat mentorship program...

Crab caught the attention of the amazing Brian Lies, and over the next few months Brian helped me polish my dummy.

Crab and I have been on an incredible journey this year. As I wait to see what's next for us, I'm looking forward to starting the new year with new ideas...

First up... Storystorm 2020!

New Year, New Project

Happy New Year!

I am kicking off 2019 by starting a new picture book dummy.  But, before I could work on the dummy, I needed to create my character...

I have drawn a lot of crabs... Realistic crabs and other people's crabs.
That way I know what's already out there and can come up with
something new & different...

I drew my own crabs until I finally came up with one that felt...

Just right!

Less than a week until...

This is my third year participating, and every year I come up with a flurry of new picture book ideas!  Some of the ideas are interesting, some of the ideas are ridiculous, and some of the ideas are ridiculous enough to make them interesting.  But, no matter what sort of ideas I come up with, the challenge is always fun!

And, to help keep me on track as I turn those ideas into full fledged stories
and picture book dummies, I am signing up for...
