Opposites

I am

pencil lines on 120 lb paper... crayons and fingerpaints on a paper bag

traditionally rendered with careful details... stylized forms loosely drawn

black, white and shades of gray... bright, bold and beautiful colors

soft pastels and watercolor washes... expressive acrylics fearlessly splashed

I am layer upon layer in an ever-changing, ever-evolving collage

I am

still figuring it out.

Today's Sunday Sketch was inspired by February's "opposites" theme over at The Sketchbook Challenge blog.  Have you visited that blog yet?  So, so much inspiration - it's fantastic.

After I drew this self portrait, I discovered that this week's Illustration Friday theme is "layer".  Hmmm... that seems to fit too.  Don't you just love it when that happens?

Don't forget to stop by Sophia's blog to see what my friends have created this week!

  5. That's an intriguing painting. I think it's a good thing if we never stop figuring out the many layers of ourselves. And I love synchronicities.

  6. Hi Kristin,

Love this..it reminds me of one of Andy Wahol's pictures that he did of Mick Jagger... Couldn't agree more when you can two for the price of one...was going to put "kill two birds with one stone" that just seems well...cruel really...

  10. Wow! This is really powerful! I love the words too and I am a huge fan of self-portraits as I think they are very revealing...this one is no exception. Love her eyes and mouth especially and the mixed mediums are great too.

  13. Kristin,

I really like this. It reminds me of a similar sketch/painting I did back in college for art class. I should post it sometime. I love the emotions and feelings an "opposite" sketch brings to the surface. Great job!

    Happy SS! =)

  20. I love the eyes in this, kinda haunting in a non-creepy way. The stark red of the lips and the colour on the right side, bleach out the left side and makes me search for its reason.

    Interesting piece.
