Day 12 (30 in 30 for 30)

"Ornaments" 8x10 mixed media on wood

This is actually the second painting I did today.  The first has a fresh coat of gesso on top...  I had a late start today, and when I finally did start painting it was a bit of a struggle.  After a while it became clear that my first painting was a hopeless case and that I would need to start fresh.  The only problem:  I had no back-up plan!  I didn't want to re-start my original sketch because I needed some distance from it.  So, at 7 o'clock tonight, I scrambled to come up with a new idea.

The inspiration for this painting (and also the first one I did) was based on Debbie's request for a holiday theme.  I created it using the same method I used for my pear painting (with the addition of gold leaf).

Tune in tomorrow because I'm planning on giving today's original idea another try!  (I will also be giving an update on my etsy situation.)

And... See what the other participants in the AEDM challenge created for Day 12 over at the Creative Every Day blog!

  1. WOW! Seeing the beginnings I had no idea what the final result would end up being.

    Wow! Just WOW!

  2. Ooooooh, such sumptous colours, makes me want to eat some chocolate :)Is that wrong??! Gorgeous christmas baubles, such a wonderful effect.
And I have to say again Kristin, what a superstar you are! To come up with a fresh painting everyday, a finished and beautiful one EVERYDAY...just AMAZING. You are my hero :)x

  3. I love this as much as I love the Pears painting!
P.S. I also love your interpretation of the woman's body ;)

  4. Oooh, I like the subtle colours in this, muted yet vibrant. And a great texture too.

Can I cheer from the audience? You are doing fantastic at your challenge, girlie. Go, Kristin!!

(a little crazy cos it's past midnight)

  5. Love, love, love this!
I've loved all of the things you have done and been posting, I just don't always comment :) But your work is so incredible!

  6. Love the ornaments. Funny I dreamed last night of sketching and in my dream I was sketching ornaments and have an idea in my mind of what to do with it.

  7. Very pretty. Are the colours true? Ornaments are a great theme! I bet you could create a lot of beautiful (and silly ones)!

    Can you do nutcrackers?

  8. Absolutely LOVE this! I with Jenny - makes me crave chocolate! ☺

  9. I absolutely LOVE LOVE this one too. I'd say it;s your best one of the bunch perhaps...although, that is rather hard to say, as all of them have been so inspired. Anyway, Kristin, from messing up on one to producing this glorious piece! you msut be so chuffed at yourself, no? Wonderful. BIG smiles here.
